How It All Started

Four generations ago, our Popek family came to America, seeking a better way of life and a chance to have our own land. Our family settled in Wild Rose, Wisconsin. Like any small Mid-Western town, it is a town where everybody knows you and cares about you and the feeling of simpler times still exist. Our farm has passed down through the family -- with each new generation always respecting and honoring those that came before.
Our Dad, Pete Popek, was the family’s most recent generation. He was just a regular guy with the independent streak of a family farmer. He worked very hard at two jobs – the farm and the local forge – determined to do whatever it took to keep the Popek farm going for the next generation. Pete loved the natural beauty of the land and the honest simple life it provided. He raised us, his daughters Becky and Jen, to respect the land; to understand that drive and determination lead to success; to have the self-confidence to do anything; to know good neighbors help each other; to believe in the strength that comes from family and home; and to never forget to have fun and laugh along the way. Because of that, our bourbon’s character, like the farm, is approachable and honest – something so smooth and easy to sip with friends. These learnings are deeply rooted in us – that next generation. And like most daughters, our Dad – who quietly went about his life with dignity, integrity and love of land and family – remains our hero.
WHAT SETS US APART?
1. Family
Family is the thread that weaves through every aspect of a family business, creating a shared tapestry of values, traditions, and aspirations. These shared ties bind us together tightly, fostering a deep sense of trust, loyalty, and commitment. In a family business, the strength of these connections not only guides decision-making and sustains the business through challenges but also nurtures a legacy that can be passed down through generations. The personal investment each member has in the success of the business is unparalleled, as it reflects not just professional ambition but the collective hopes and dreams of the family itself.

2. Legacy
Legacy in a family farm is the embodiment of deep-rooted traditions and values handed down from generation to generation. It's more than just the land; it's the wisdom of the soil, the rhythm of the seasons, and the commitment to nurturing both crops and family ties. This legacy is built on the hard work, resilience, and dedication of those who came before, shaping a sense of purpose and identity that transcends time. As each generation takes the reins, they not only inherit the physical farm but also the responsibility to uphold these cherished traditions, ensuring that the values that sustained the farm's success continue to thrive for years to come.

3. Devotion
Devotion to the family farm is a profound commitment to our land, family, and community. It's the dedication to cultivating the earth with care, knowing that our efforts sustain not only our own household but also the broader community that relies on our produce. This devotion is rooted in a sense of responsibility that goes beyond mere business; it's about preserving the land for future generations, nurturing the bonds within our family, and contributing to the well-being of our neighbors. Every decision made on the farm is a reflection of this unwavering commitment, where the prosperity of the land, the strength of family ties, and the health of the community are all deeply interconnected.

4. Independence
An independent spirit within a family business is the driving force that fuels innovation, resilience, and self-reliance. It’s the mindset that encourages taking bold risks, forging unique paths, and embracing challenges with confidence. Rooted in the entrepreneurial vision of the founders, this spirit is passed down through generations, inspiring each member to contribute their own ideas and strengths while staying true to the core values of the business. This independence allows the family business to chart its own course, adapt to changing circumstances, and maintain a strong identity that is both distinct and deeply personal. It is the blend of tradition and individual creativity that propels the business forward, ensuring its enduring success and relevance.
